The exhibition, curated by Elias Redstone, originated as an online project and showcases 60 architecture magazines, fanzines and journals from over 20 countries. From Australia and Argentina to the UK and USA, these independent publications are reframing how people relate to their built environment – taking comment and c…riticism out of just an architectural arena and into everyday life.
The titles also provide platforms for architectural research and debate, and demonstrate the residual love of the printed word and paper page – providing an antidote to digital publishing.
Made by architects, artists and students, they add an important, and often radical, addition to architectural discourse. Each magazine is available to read in the exhibition along with video interviews with their creators talking about their work.

ARCHIZINES is a showcase of new architecture fanzines, journals and magazines from around the world that provide an alternative to the established architectural press. Launched by Elias Redstone, with art direction by Folch Studio, the project celebrates and promotes independent and alternative publishing as an arena for architectural commentary, criticism and research, and as a creative platform for new photography, illustration and design.

David Chipperfield is topfavoriet om op te treden als curator voor de 13de Internationale Architectuurbiënnale van Venetië in 2012. Hij ontving eerder dit jaar de Mies Van Der Rohe Award voor de renovatie van het Neues Museum in Berlijn.

In dit eerste boek worden kunststromingen van na ‘45 uit de doeken gedaan en beschreven binnen een internationale context. Aan de hand van voorbeelden uit de Belgische kunst wordt vervolgens dieper ingegaan op de betekenis van deze kunststromingen. De invalshoeken zijn divers: filosofisch, kunsthistorisch, kunstkritisch en technisch. Aldus wordt ingespeeld op de Amerikaanse theorie (DBAE) omtrent kunsteducatie. Deze gaat ervan uit dat men kunst best begrijpt via verschillende disciplines. Het boek is gericht op een breed publiek: specialisten die een geheugenopfrissing wensen; educatieve werkers die de regels van de kunst willenn doorgeven; studenten die de kunst en haar wetenschap bestuderen en tenslotte iedereen die zelf toegang tot de hedendaagse kunst wil leren zoeken.
